Develop advanced skills for working with high-risk behaviours and
complex needs
This learning program builds knowledge, skills, and professional judgement through six core modules:
- A Developmental Overview of Youth Justice in Canada
- Ethics, Consent and Confidentiality: Protecting Youthful Clients
- Mental Health, Trauma and Addictions: Implications of Bio-Psycho-Social Factors Linked to High Risk Youth Populations
- Best Practice Approaches for the Assessment and Treatment of High Risk Youth
- Capacity Building and Interagency Co-Operation: Improving Community Safety Nets
- Program Fidelity and Evaluation
Modules are delivered by a multi-disciplinary faculty with extensive backgrounds in criminology, psychology, neuropsychology, law, law enforcement and corrections, all of whom must achieve over 80% in participant evaluations to continue leading programs. Modules are based on current research, and are custom tailored to meet the unique needs of each team we work with and the youthful clients they serve.
The objectives of the TAPE Certificate in Working with Justice-Involved and High Risk Youth are to:
- Understand the implications of recent research in youth justice
- Equip practitioners with more effective assessment tools and skills
- Develop front line skills for working with high-risk behaviours and complex needs
- Provide strategies for forging more effective community partnerships to identify and mitigate risks earlier
- Measure the effectiveness of services
Programs are delivered on site at community agencies, law enforcement agencies and school boards in all provinces, territories and states. Content is tailored to accommodate differences between jurisdictions.
