Overview: Specific physical changes occur in the last days and hours of life. Recognizing these changes and the psychosocial implications is of utmost importance to family and caregivers. This course will detail these changes, their implications and identify basic strategies to support caregivers during this time.
Learning Outcomes:
- understand common physical changes that occur in the dying process
- be able to articulate the changing needs for nutrition and hydration
- identify the changes that might precipitate a crisis
- identify those in YOUR community who provide support for the dying and their caregivers
- identify an individual that a caregiver could call in your community, if and when a dying person or caregiver experiences a crisis in the home setting
- explore through journaling what YOU might want when you are dying
